John Grobham Howe was born in 1625. He was the younger son of Sir John Howe, 1st Baronet. His mother was Bridget Rich. In 1645, he studied at Lincoln's Inn, which was a place where people learned about law.

A Career in Politics

In 1659, John Grobham Howe became a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is a person elected to represent an area in the country's government. He represented Gloucestershire in the Third Protectorate Parliament.

He was chosen again as an MP for Gloucestershire in 1661. This time, he served in the Cavalier Parliament. He continued to be an MP until 1679.

Family Life

John Grobham Howe married a woman named Annabella. Her father was Emanuel Scrope, 1st Earl of Sunderland. Annabella shared her father's property, including the manor of Langar, Nottinghamshire. This property then became part of her husband's family.

In 1663, King Charles II gave Annabella a special honor. She was given the same rank as a legitimate daughter of an Earl. From then on, she was known as Lady Annabella Howe.

John and Annabella had four sons:

They also had five daughters. John Grobham Howe passed away when he was about 54 years old. He was buried at Langar on May 27, 1679.
