John H. McClendon facts for kids
John H. McClendon III is a professor who teaches philosophy at Michigan State University. Philosophy is a way of thinking deeply about important questions, like what is real, what is good, and how we should live.
Professor McClendon earned his highest degree, a doctorate in philosophy, from the University of Kansas. Before joining Michigan State University, he taught at several other universities. These included Binghamton University, Eastern Illinois University, the University of Illinois Champaign/Urbana, Bates College, and the University of Missouri.
His main areas of study include African philosophy, which explores ideas from African cultures. He also studies the philosophy of African-American studies, looking at the history and ideas of Black people in America. Another area he focuses on is the history of African-American philosophers, learning about the thinkers who came before him.
What Professor McClendon Does
Professor McClendon helps share ideas with others. He is the editor of a newsletter called Philosophy and the Black Experience. Being an editor means he helps decide what articles go into the newsletter and makes sure they are well-written. This newsletter is published by the American Philosophical Association.
