John Lovell Horsley (born 21 July 1920 – died 12 January 2014) was a British actor. He was known for playing many different characters, especially doctors and policemen, in TV shows and movies.

Early Life and War Service
John Horsley was born in Westcliff-on-Sea, a town in Essex, England. His father was a doctor. John started acting at the Theatre Royal in Bournemouth.
When the Second World War began, he joined the army. He served in the Royal Devon Yeomanry in places like Sicily and Italy. After getting sick with hepatitis, he joined an army drama group. This group traveled around, putting on plays for soldiers.
Acting Career on Screen
When John Horsley became a professional actor, he often played doctors and policemen. For example, he was a doctor in the 1957 film Hell Drivers. He also played a policeman in the TV show Big Breadwinner Hog in 1969.
Famous TV Roles
John Horsley became very busy in television during the 1960s. He appeared in many popular series. Some of these included The Lotus Eaters (1972–73) and The Duchess of Duke Street (1976–77).
He is probably most famous for his role as Doc Morrissey in the BBC comedy show The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin. This show was on from 1976 to 1979. His character's famous line was "Take two aspirins." He played Doc Morrissey again in a later series called The Legacy of Reginald Perrin in 1996.
Other Notable Appearances
John Horsley also starred in the 1980s comedy series My Husband and I. He appeared in an episode of Tales of the Unexpected in 1988.
He played Sir Ralph Shawcross in the BBC comedy You Rang, M'Lord? (1990–93). He was also the Bishop of Tatchester in The Box of Delights (1984), a BBC show based on a book by John Masefield.
John Horsley also appeared in detective shows. He was Professor Wanstead in an episode of Miss Marple in 1987. In 1995, he played Edward Tressilian in an episode of Agatha Christie's Poirot. His last acting role was in the TV mini-series Rebecca in 1997.
Personal Life and Death
John Horsley was married to actress June Marshall from 1948 until she passed away in 1988. They had two daughters together.
He died on 12 January 2014. He was living at Denville Hall, which is a special retirement home for actors.
