About John Craigie

John Craigie was born in a place called Merigomish in Nova Scotia, Canada. He loved learning and went to several universities. He studied at Harvard University, the University of Minnesota, and the University of Manitoba.

In 1925, John Craigie helped start a special lab in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It was called the Dominion Rust Research Laboratory. This lab focused on studying and fighting plant rust. In 1930, he earned his Ph.D. degree from the University of Manitoba. This is a very high university degree.

A big discovery by Craigie happened in 1926. He published a paper called "Discovery of the Function of the Pycnia of the Rust Fungi." This paper explained how rust fungi reproduce. This meant he was the top plant expert for the government.

John Craigie received many important awards for his work. In 1952, he became a Fellow of the Royal Society. This is a very special honor for top scientists. He was also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. In 1967, he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada. This is one of Canada's highest honors for people who have made a big difference.
