John Jones (born 1610 – died 21 May 1692) was an English businessman and politician. He was a member of the English Parliament at different times between 1656 and 1679. He supported the Parliament's side, known as the Roundheads, during the English Civil War.

Early Life and Beginnings
John Jones was born in 1610 in a place called St Chad, which is in Shrewsbury, England. He went to school at the Shrewsbury grammar school.
In 1629, when he was about 19, John moved to London. By 1633, he became a member of the Worshipful Company of Grocers. This was a powerful group for merchants who dealt with spices and other goods.
Role in the English Civil War
The English Civil War was a big conflict in England. John Jones was a strong supporter of the Presbyterian church. He also served as a captain in London's local army, called the militia, during the war.
From 1645 to 1647, he was a common councilman. This meant he helped manage the city of London. In 1647, he wanted to make peace with King Charles I. Because of this, he was briefly put under arrest.
A Member of Parliament
In 1656, John Jones was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for the City of London. An MP is someone elected to represent people in Parliament. He was re-elected as an MP for London in 1659 and again in 1661.
He was very active in Parliament. He often spoke about trade and business, especially matters important to London. For example, he was against building Putney Bridge. He thought it would harm London's trade.
Later Life and Contributions
After Parliament was dissolved in 1679, John Jones retired. He moved to his country home in Hampton, Middlesex. He continued to be involved with the Grocers' Company.
John Jones passed away on 21 May 1692. He was buried in London. He left a large amount of money, about £20,000, to charity. He gave money to five parishes in Shropshire. He also helped fund Hampton School. He made sure that the Anglican catechism, a set of religious teachings, would be taught there.
