John Lindsay, 8th Lord Lindsay was an important Scottish landowner. He was also a member of the Privy Council of Scotland, a group of advisors to the King. He passed away on November 5, 1609.
About Lord Lindsay
John Lindsay was the oldest son of James Lindsay, 7th Lord Lindsay and Lady Eupheme Leslie. He had a younger brother named Robert, who later became a high-ranking church official.
John also had several sisters. These included Jane, Helen, and Catherine. His family was well-connected in Scotland.
His Work and Role
When his father died in November 1601, John Lindsay inherited the title of Lord Lindsay of the Byres. This meant he became the 8th Lord Lindsay.
In 1605, he was chosen to be a Privy Councillor of Scotland. This was a significant role. It meant he was part of a special group that advised the King on important matters.
His Family Life
Around July 4, 1599, Lord Lindsay married Hon. Anne Oliphant. She was the only daughter of Laurence Oliphant, Master of Oliphant.
John and Anne had one daughter together:
- Hon. Anne Lindsay. She married a Scottish judge named Alexander Falconer, 1st Lord Falconer in 1619. They later separated in 1627.
Lord Lindsay died on November 5, 1609. Because he did not have any sons, his title passed to his younger brother, Robert. After his death, the family's main estate, Byres, was sold.
