John Lloyd (FRS) was a British scientist and politician. He was born on January 25, 1750, and passed away on April 24, 1815. Lloyd was known for his wide range of interests in the natural world.

Early Life and Learning

John Lloyd was the oldest son of Howel Lloyd. His family lived at places called Hafodunos and Wigfair. He likely went to Oxford University for his education. After that, he studied law at the Middle Temple, which is a famous place for lawyers in London. He officially became a lawyer in 1781.

A Scientist and Explorer

John Lloyd loved learning about many different parts of nature. He was interested in things like earthquakes (seismology) and stars (astronomy). Because of his passion for science, he was chosen to be a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1774. This is a very important group for scientists in the UK.

One of his notable scientific contributions was a report about finding gold in Ireland. He wrote a letter about this discovery to Sir Joseph Banks, who was the head of the Royal Society at the time. This report was published in a well-known scientific journal.

Serving in Politics

Besides his scientific work, John Lloyd also served in the government. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Flintshire. He held this position from 1797 to 1799. As an MP, he helped make decisions for the country.

Later Life

John Lloyd never married. He passed away in 1815, leaving behind a legacy as a man who contributed to both science and public service in Britain.
