Sir John Lovekyn was an important person in London during the 1300s. He was a fishmonger, which means he sold fish. He became the Lord Mayor of London three times, which was a very big deal! He was active in London's government from about 1342 to 1366.

Early Roles in London's Government
John Lovekyn started his public service as a Warden of London Bridge. He held this important job from 1342 to 1350. In 1347, he became an Alderman of the city. An Alderman was a senior member of the city council.
In 1342, he also served as a Sheriff of the City of London. A Sheriff was a key official who helped keep law and order. Sheriffs also managed elections and collected taxes.
Three Times Lord Mayor of London
John Lovekyn was elected Lord Mayor of London for the first time in 1348. This was a very important position, like being the head of the city. He was elected again for a second term in 1358.
His third time as Mayor was quite unusual. On October 28, 1365, another person, Adam de Bury, was chosen as Mayor. But on January 28, 1366, King Edward III ordered that Adam de Bury be removed. The King then chose John Lovekyn to be Mayor for a third time.
Serving in Parliament
Besides his roles in London's city government, John Lovekyn also served in the Parliament of England. He was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the City of London in 1344 and 1346. He was even elected twice in 1348! As an MP, he represented the people of London in the country's main law-making body.
