John James Jaffray Mallard (born December 18, 1860 – died March 26, 1935) was a New Zealand cricketer. He also had a very successful career as an insurance executive. He played two important cricket matches, known as first-class games, for the Otago team in 1882 and 1885.

Early Life and Cricket
John Mallard was born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1860. When he was about four years old, his family moved to Dunedin, New Zealand. He attended Otago Boys' High School as a student.
After finishing school, John began working for an insurance company. He was also a talented cricketer. He played two first-class matches for the Otago cricket team. These games happened in 1882 and 1885.
Career in Insurance
In 1888, John Mallard joined the National Insurance Company of New Zealand. He stayed with this company for a long time. He worked there until he retired in 1926.
John held important positions at the company. From 1914 to 1919, he was the company's secretary. After that, he became the general manager in 1919. He kept this top role until he retired.
Community Involvement
John Mallard was very knowledgeable about the history of Dunedin. He also knew a lot about the wider Otago region. He was considered an expert on these topics.
He was the president of the Otago Early Settlers' Association for five years. This group helped remember and celebrate the first people who settled in the Otago area. He was still the president when he passed away in 1935.
Family Life
John Mallard married Marjory May Murray Wallace in September 1889. Their wedding took place in Dunedin. They had three children together: one daughter and two sons. Sadly, one of their sons passed away during World War I. Marjory, his wife, died in December 1917. John Mallard himself passed away in Dunedin in March 1935.
