John McGuire went to Guildford Grammar School from 1970 to 1972. He is married to Karen, and they have a son and a daughter together.
Cricket Career
John McGuire played most of his cricket for the Mount Lawley District Cricket Club. This was part of the Western Australian Grade Cricket competition. He is an amazing second on the list for all-time runs scored in the first grade. He scored a total of 10,004 runs!
Club Records
McGuire also holds several records for his club. He has the most career runs with 9,204. He also made the most career catches, with 160.
Prime Minister's XI Match
In January 1988, John McGuire was the captain of a special team. This team was made up of Aboriginal players. They played against a team called the Prime Minister's XI. The Prime Minister at the time, Bob Hawke, personally captained that team. Later that year, McGuire's team toured England. This tour was to celebrate the Australian Bicentenary, which marked 200 years since the First Fleet arrived in Australia.
Australian Rules Football Career
John McGuire played 85 games for the East Perth Football Club. This club is part of the West Australian Football League. He was part of the team that won the premiership in 1978. A premiership means they won the league championship that year.
After playing for East Perth, he moved to the Perth Football Club in 1980.
