John McGuire went to Guildford Grammar School from 1970 to 1972. He is married to Karen, and they have a son and a daughter.
John McGuire's Cricket Career
McGuire played most of his cricket career for the Mount Lawley District Cricket Club. This club is part of the Western Australian Grade Cricket competition. He is an amazing player, ranking second in all-time runs scored in the first-grade competition with 10,004 runs.
He also holds several records for his club. These include the most career runs, with 9,204 runs, and the most career catches, with 160 catches.
Leading an Aboriginal Cricket Team
In January 1988, John McGuire was the captain of a special team. This team was made up of Aboriginal players. They played against a team called the Prime Minister's XI, which was personally captained by the Prime Minister at the time, Bob Hawke.
Later that same year, McGuire's team traveled to England. This tour was to celebrate the Australian Bicentenary, which marked 200 years since the First Fleet arrived in Australia.
John McGuire's Football Career
John McGuire also played Australian rules football. He played 85 games for the East Perth Football Club. This club is part of the West Australian Football League.
A big highlight of his football career was being part of the East Perth team that won the premiership in 1978. After playing for East Perth, he moved to the Perth Football Club in 1980.
