Musical Career
Before joining Limp Bizkit, John Otto studied jazz drumming at a special arts school. He also played in local bands that made experimental, or avant-garde, music.
Joining Limp Bizkit
In the mid-1990s, singer Fred Durst and bassist Sam Rivers were starting a new band in Jacksonville, Florida. They asked John to be their drummer, and Limp Bizkit was born.
The band started small but quickly grew into one of the most famous bands in the world. They have sold more than 40 million albums.
In 2005, the band released an EP called The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1). John wrote and recorded drum parts for the entire EP. However, the band also worked with another drummer named Sammy Siegler. In the end, John's drumming was featured on one song, "The Channel," which he also helped write.
After releasing a greatest hits album in 2005, the band took a break. In 2009, John and the original members of Limp Bizkit got back together for a world tour.
Other Projects
Besides Limp Bizkit, John has worked on other musical projects. He has a rap career under the name 'Johnny Ottomatic' and was part of a rap group called Stereo Chemix.
He has also worked with other artists and bands. He produced and played drums for the rapper Diabolic. He also played drums on all the songs for the debut album of The Killer and the Star, a project by Scooter Ward from the band Cold.
In May 2022, John and his daughter Ava were on the TV show Come Dance with Me.
Drumming Style
John Otto is known for his ability to play many different styles of music. He can drum everything from Brazilian and Afro-Cuban music to bebop jazz and funk. This variety helps create the special sound of Limp Bizkit.
He uses equipment from brands like Orange County Drum and Percussion, Zildjian, and Remo.
