Early Life and Education
John Philip Saklil was born in a place called Kokonao, which was then part of Netherlands New Guinea, on March 20, 1960. He studied in both Indonesia and the Philippines to prepare for his life in the church. On October 23, 1988, he became a priest for the Diocese of Jayapura.

This meant he was an important helper for the bishop in that specific area.
