John David Pritchard (born January 23, 1927 – died August 3, 2012) was an American professional basketball player. He played as a center.

Early Life and College Basketball

John Pritchard was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He went to South High School. After high school, John played college basketball. He played for the Drake University team. He was a college player from 1945 to 1949.

Professional Basketball Career

Joining the NBA

After college, John Pritchard was chosen in the 1949 BAA Draft. This was a special event where professional teams pick new players. The St. Louis Bombers picked him. He was chosen in the seventh round.

Playing for the Waterloo Hawks

John Pritchard played in the NBA for a short time. He joined the Waterloo Hawks team. He played seven games for them. This was during the 1949–50 NBA season.

The Washington Generals

After playing for the Hawks, John played for the Washington Generals. This team is famous for a special reason. The Generals always play against the Harlem Globetrotters. They travel around and play exhibition games. The funny thing is, the Washington Generals always lose to the Globetrotters! John Pritchard was part of this unique team.

Later Life

John Pritchard passed away on August 3, 2012. He was 85 years old. He died in Fridley, Minnesota.
