The John Q.A. Ward House is a special old house located in Urbana, Ohio, United States. It was built way back in 1820 by Colonel William Ward. Colonel Ward was important because he was the person who founded, or started, the town of Urbana. He built this house as a wedding present for his son, John Anderson Ward. John lived in the house until he passed away in 1855.
The John Q.A. Ward House
This historic house is named after John Quincy Adams Ward, who was John A. Ward's son and a very famous sculptor. A sculptor is an artist who creates amazing figures and shapes from materials like stone, wood, or metal. John Q.A. Ward was known for making many sculptures, including famous people like the Marquis de Lafayette, George Washington, and Oliver Hazard Perry.
Why Is It Special?
The Ward House is important because of its old and unique design. It was built on a strong stone foundation. The house itself is made of brick and has two stories. It's shaped like the letter "L" when you look at it from above. This special design, along with its connection to the famous sculptor John Q.A. Ward, made the house very important.
Because of its well-preserved architecture and its history, the John Q.A. Ward House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. This means it's recognized as a place that is important to the history of the United States.
