John Randall (died May 8, 1869) was an important politician in Louisiana. He served in the Louisiana State Senate during a time called the Reconstruction era. This was a period after the American Civil War when the Southern states were rebuilt and brought back into the United States.

Early Life and Politics

John Randall was born in Virginia. He was born into slavery, which means he was not free. Despite this, he became a respected leader. People remembered him as an honest man. He worked hard to help people of all backgrounds get along. He wanted to create peace between Black and White people.

In 1868, John Randall became involved in politics. He joined the Republican State Convention. This was a big meeting where members of the Republican Party decided on their plans and leaders. He was chosen to be part of the State Central Committee. This committee helped lead the Republican Party in Louisiana. He represented an area called Concordia Parish.

Serving in the Senate

John Randall was chosen to become a state senator. A senator is a person who helps make laws for their state. He took the place of John S. Harris, who had become a U.S. Senator. This meant John Randall would help make laws for the entire country.

Randall officially became a senator on September 15, 1868. He represented two areas: Concordia Parish and Avoyelles Parish. As a senator, he worked on important groups called committees. He served on the Committee on Enrolment and the Committee on Unfinished Business. These committees helped organize new laws and finish old tasks.

His Legacy

John Randall died on May 8, 1869, at his home in Vidalia, Louisiana. He passed away from a sudden illness. His death was noted by other senators in 1870. Even though he served for a short time, he was remembered for his efforts to bring people together.
