John Rathbone (born around 1750, died in 1807) was an English artist. He was known for painting landscapes using both oil paints and watercolors.

Who Was John Rathbone?

John Rathbone was born in Cheshire, England, around 1750. He worked as an artist in several cities. These included Manchester, London, and Preston. He mainly painted beautiful outdoor scenes.

His Artistic Style

People sometimes called John Rathbone the 'Manchester Wilson'. This was a comparison to a famous landscape painter named Richard Wilson. However, Rathbone's oil paintings were often described as looking a bit dull. They were not as bright or lively.

On the other hand, his watercolor paintings were quite different. They were drawn very well and looked interesting. He used a lighter style that was popular at the time.
