John Redmond Freke was the younger son of Sir Ralph Freke, 1st Baronet. His mother was Elizabeth, whose father was Sir John Meade, 1st Baronet.
John's older brother, Percy, was the second baronet. When Percy passed away on 10 April 1728, John Redmond Freke became the 3rd Baronet.
A Career in Politics
Sir John Freke was a politician for many years. He was a member of parliament (M.P.) for a place called Baltimore. He represented Baltimore from 1728 until 1760. His own grandfather, Percy Freke, had also been an M.P. for Baltimore before him.
Later, Sir John became the M.P. for the city of Cork. He represented Cork from 1761 until he died.
Besides being an M.P., he also served in other important roles in Cork. He was the Sheriff of Cork in 1750. This job was about keeping law and order. In 1753, he became the Mayor of Cork, which meant he was the main leader of the city.
Later Life and Legacy
Sir John Freke married Mary Brodrick. She was the fourth daughter of St John Brodrick. Mary passed away at Castle Freke in County Cork on 20 June 1761. She was buried in Midleton, County Cork.
Sir John Freke passed away on 13 April 1764. He did not have any children. Because of this, the baronet title in his family ended when he died. His property and lands were inherited by his sister, Grace.
