John Theodore Tapley (born September 22, 1911 – died December 26, 1956) was an American baseball player. He was a talented third baseman who played in the Negro leagues during the 1930s.

John Tapley was born in Winona, Mississippi. As he grew up, he attended Pontiac High School in Pontiac, Michigan. John wasn't the only baseball player in his family. His brother, Townsend Tapley, also played in the Negro leagues.

In 1933, John Tapley played for a team called the Akron Black Tyrites. This team was part of the Negro leagues. These leagues were professional baseball leagues for African American players. They played during a time when Black players were not allowed to play in Major League Baseball.
