As a young person, John Lee was part of a youth group in Brooklyn called the Decepticons. This group was named after the villains from the popular Saturday morning cartoon, Transformers.
Lee attended Stuyvesant High School, which is a special school known for its focus on science and math. After high school, he went on to study at New York University.
The "Great Hacker War"
During his time at New York University, John Lee was involved in a big rivalry between two computer groups. These groups were MOD (John Lee's group) and another group called Legion of Doom. This rivalry became known as the "Great Hacker War."
Because of his computer activities during this time, John Lee faced legal consequences in 1992. He agreed to the charges and spent some time in a special federal center.
