John Tregonwell was born on September 3, 1632. His father was Thomas Tregonwell, also from Anderson, Dorset. His mother was Dorothy Hastings. She was the daughter of Henry Hastings and the widow of Sir John Ryves.
John took over Anderson Manor in 1655 after his father passed away. This was a significant property in Dorset.
Political Career
John Tregonwell started his political journey in 1659. He was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Corfe Castle. This was during the Third Protectorate Parliament.
Important Roles
In March 1660, John Tregonwell became a Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Dorset. This meant he helped keep law and order in the area. He continued in this role until he died.
In April 1660, he was re-elected as MP for Corfe Castle. This time it was for the Convention Parliament. From August 1660 to 1680, he worked as a commissioner for assessment in Dorset. This role involved setting taxes.
