John Tuchet was an important English nobleman who lived a long time ago. He was known as the 8th Baron Audley and the 5th Baron Tuchet. He was born around 1483 and passed away before January 20, 1557. Being a "Baron" meant he was a member of the nobility, holding a special rank and often owning land.
His Family Background
John Tuchet's father was Sir James Tuchet, 7th Baron Audley. His mother was Margaret Dayrell. Her family was also quite important in England at the time.
Becoming a Baron
John Tuchet married Mary Griffin. Her father, John Griffin, was the 9th Baron of Latimer of Braybrook.
John Tuchet became a Baron in 1512. This was a special event because his father had lost these titles earlier. His father had been involved in something called the Cornish Rebellion of 1497. Because of this, the family's titles and lands were taken away, or "forfeited," in 1497.
However, in 1512, an official act called an "act of restitution" allowed John Tuchet to get his family's titles back. This meant he was "restored" as Lord Audley, regaining his family's name, rank, and estates.
His Successor
John Tuchet passed away before January 20, 1557. After his death, his only son, George Tuchet, 9th Baron Audley, took over his titles and lands. George Tuchet became the 9th Baron Audley and passed away in 1560.
