John Turton was born in a place called Staffordshire, England. He became a very skilled doctor. His work was so well-known that he became the personal physician to King George III of Great Britain.

A Doctor to the King

King George III sometimes suffered from periods of serious illness. Dr. Turton was responsible for treating the King during these difficult times. Being the King's doctor was a very important and trusted role.

His Home and Legacy

Dr. Turton lived in a grand house called Brasted Place in Kent. A famous architect named Robert Adam designed this house. It is still considered one of the most beautiful country homes in the area.

A Recognized Scientist

In November 1763, John Turton was chosen to become a Fellow of the Royal Society. This is a very old and respected group for top scientists and thinkers. Being a Fellow meant he was recognized for his important contributions to knowledge.

His Final Resting Place

John Turton passed away at his home, Brasted Place. He was buried in the churchyard of Brasted. There is a special memorial tablet for him inside St. Martin’s Church, Brasted. This memorial was designed by a famous sculptor named Sir Richard Westmacott. It has a classic Greek style with columns and a special stone chest called a sarcophagus.
