John Ventimiglia is an American actor. He is well-known for playing the character Artie Bucco in the popular TV show The Sopranos. He also had a regular role as Dino Arbogast, a police chief, in the TV series Blue Bloods.
Early life
John Ventimiglia was born in Ridgewood, Queens, a part of New York City. His parents were immigrants from Castellammare del Golfo, Sicily, a town in Italy. He grew up in Teaneck, New Jersey.
At home, John spoke Sicilian with his parents, and he can still speak it fluently today! He went to Teaneck High School and graduated in 1981. While there, he played on the school's football team. In the 1980s, he lived in New York City with Michael Imperioli, who later acted alongside him in The Sopranos.
Career
John Ventimiglia has acted in many movies and TV shows. Some of his film roles include Cop Land, Mickey Blue Eyes, and The Iceman. He has also appeared in popular TV series like Law & Order and NYPD Blue.
In 2007, John Ventimiglia took part in special musical and spoken word performances. These shows honored famous writers and thinkers like C. Wright Mills and Jack Kerouac. He even performed a Kerouac show in Denmark.
He also starred in the comedy movie Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Undead in 2008. In 2011, he appeared in the film Flypaper. The same year, he acted in a small independent film called Ponies.
In 2012, he played General Humberto Delgado in a Portuguese film called Operation Autumn. This movie was about a real historical event. In 2016, he played a character named Harry Magarac in an episode of the TV show Elementary. He also narrated a documentary series for Nat Geo called Inside the American Mob.
Personal life
John Ventimiglia is married to Belinda. They have a daughter named Lucinda and a granddaughter named Shiloh. Sadly, his youngest daughter, Odele Cape, passed away in 2023. She had recently given birth to her own daughter, who is John's first grandchild.
He is a big fan of the New York Mets baseball team.
