John Sam Williams (born October 26, 1966) is a former American basketball player. He played for many years in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and also in Spain's Liga ACB.
He was known as "Hot Plate" Williams. This nickname helped tell him apart from another player, John "Hot Rod" Williams. Even though he was a big player, John Williams was very skilled. He was especially good at passing the ball. He often played as a point forward, helping to set up plays for his team.

Professional Basketball Journey
Early NBA Years with the Bullets
As a new player in the NBA, John Williams scored almost ten points and grabbed five rebounds per game for the Bullets. He got much better in his second season. He started 37 out of 82 games that year.
His third season, 1988–89, was his best. He achieved his highest numbers in almost every stat. This was impressive because he usually came off the bench as a substitute player.
Challenges and Later Career
After his strong start, John Williams faced some tough years. He missed more than half of four seasons because of injuries. These injuries made it hard for him to play his best.
His NBA career lasted eight years. He played five seasons with the Bullets, two with the Los Angeles Clippers, and one with the Indiana Pacers. He left the NBA in 1995.
Playing in Spain
After the NBA, John Williams continued his career in Spain. He played 132 games over six seasons in the Spanish Liga ACB. In Spain, he averaged 15.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
Weight and Playing Style
John Williams faced challenges with his weight during his career. This affected his ability to play at his best. Teams like the Bullets and Clippers tried to help him with weight programs.
Even with weight issues, his passing and understanding of the game stayed strong. However, his weight made it harder for him to jump high and keep his energy up. This sometimes made it difficult for him to play defense. At his lightest, he weighed about 235 pounds, but his weight often went back up to around 260 pounds.
