The John Wright Mansion is a beautiful old farmhouse found near Bellevue, Ohio in Huron County, Ohio. It was built in 1881 and stands out because of its unique style and where it's located. This mansion is a great example of Second Empire architecture, which is a fancy building style.

Who Was John Wright?
John Wright was born in England. He moved to the United States in 1833 and soon settled in Huron County, Ohio. He was very good at making money and buying land. Eventually, he owned about 2,500 acres (1,000 ha) of land!
Besides being a successful landowner, John Wright also served in the United States Army. He was a soldier for four years during the American Civil War.
What Makes the Mansion Special?
When John Wright decided to build his home, he chose the Second Empire style. This was a very interesting choice. Usually, Second Empire houses are found in cities, not on farms. Also, very large houses in this style are rare in the countryside.
Design and Features
The mansion is made of brick and has three stories. It has a special roof called a mansard roof, which has slopes on all sides. You can also see cool dormer windows sticking out from the roof.
The front of the house looks balanced and has a fancy porch with brackets in the Italianate style. At the back, there's a part of the house that extends southward, just as tall as the rest of the building. Inside, the mansion has a big ballroom and twenty-three other rooms! Imagine all that space.
A Historic Landmark Today
In early 1974, the John Wright Mansion was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means it's recognized as an important historic site because of its special architecture.
Today, the mansion is part of something called Historic Lime Village. This is a group run by volunteers who keep the mansion open as a historic house museum. You can visit it to learn about its history and see what life was like in the past.
