John Zoe is an important leader of the Tli Cho people. The Tli Cho are an Indigenous group in Canada. John Zoe has worked hard to help his community and preserve their culture.
A Leader for His People
John Zoe was the main person, or chief negotiator, for the Tli Cho people during talks about Treaty 11. This was a very important agreement. He also played a big part in making the Tli Cho self-government agreement official in 2005. This agreement allows the Tli Cho to make their own decisions and laws for their community.
After these agreements, John Zoe became the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Tli Cho First Nation. He held this important leadership role until July 2009. As CEO, he helped manage the daily operations and plans for the Tli Cho government.
Sharing Culture and History
John Zoe knows a lot about Tli Cho history and their way of life. He is an expert in their culture. He helped create the Behchoko Community Teacher Education Program. This program teaches new teachers about Tli Cho history and culture. This way, students can learn about their own heritage in school.
