Johnstonville is a small community in Lassen County, California. It used to be called Toadtown. It is located about 4.5 miles (7.2 km) east-southeast of Susanville. Johnstonville sits at an elevation of 4,131 feet (1,259 meters) above sea level.
In 2020, about 973 people lived in Johnstonville. This was a small decrease from 1,024 people in 2010.

History of Johnstonville
The area was first settled in 1857. The early settlers named it Toadtown because there were many toads around. Later, the name was changed to Johnstonville. This new name honored Robert Johnston, who helped the town grow. A post office served the community from 1902 until 1943.
