Jon Doust is a funny comedian, a talented writer, and a speaker. He was born in Bridgetown, Western Australia, and now lives in Albany, Western Australia. Before becoming famous for comedy and writing, he studied English at university. He also worked on farms, in shops, and as a journalist.

Comedy Shows and Fun Facts

Jon Doust has performed his comedy at many places and festivals. This includes the Amnesty International Comedy Festival in Sydney. He also performed at the Palandri International Comedy Festival in Margaret River. He has even opened shows for big comedy stars like Alexei Sayle and Hale and Pace.

He was often heard on local ABC radio stations. He was a regular guest on ABC Radio's Ted Bull show. Jon Doust also taught a fun course at the University of Western Australia. It was called How to Laugh Your Way out of a Paper bag.

Jon Doust and Politics

Jon Doust tried to become a politician twice. In the 1993 Australian federal election, he ran for the area called Curtin. He didn't win, getting only a small number of votes. His funny campaign slogan was "Put me last!". He tried again in the 1998 Australian federal election for the Forrest area, but he didn't win that time either.

Writing Books and Stories

Jon Doust has written many things. He wrote two children's books with Ken Spillman: Magpie Mischief (2002) and Magwheel Madness (2005). These books were published by Fremantle Arts Centre Press. He has also written short stories for other books and for The West Australian newspaper.

Earlier in his career, he wrote about computers for Perth's Sunday Times newspaper. Later, he had his own column in The West Australian newspaper. He often wrote about his own life in these columns. In 2020, he was a finalist for a special writing award called the Western Australian Writer's Fellowship.

Jon Doust has written three novels, which are longer stories:

  • Boy on a Wire is a story about his experiences at a boarding school in Perth.
  • To the Highlands is a novel based on his time on an island in the South Pacific.
  • Return Ticket includes stories from his travels between Australia, South Africa, and living on a Kibbutz in Israel.
