Jonas Algirdas Antanaitis (born August 19, 1921 – died September 7, 2018) was an important person in Lithuania's history. He was a politician who worked for many years in the Seimas, which is like Lithuania's parliament or main law-making group.

Early Life and Education

Jonas Antanaitis was born in a small village called Rimšiniai. This village is in the Pakruojis district of Lithuania. He was born on August 19, 1921.

He went to Vytautas Magnus University to study. There, he learned about engineering, which is how to design and build things like machines or buildings.

Standing Up for Lithuania

During his lifetime, Lithuania faced a difficult time. The Soviet Union took control of Lithuania. Jonas Antanaitis did not agree with this. He joined a group of people who worked secretly to resist the Soviet control. These groups wanted Lithuania to be free again.

Because of his actions, he was arrested in 1944. He was then sent far away to Siberia. This is a very cold region in Russia. He lived there for many years.

In 1954, Jonas Antanaitis was able to return to Lithuania. After coming back, he continued to work as an engineer.

Becoming a Politician

Later in his life, Jonas Antanaitis became a politician. In 1995, he joined the Sixth Seimas. This means he became a member of Lithuania's parliament. He was elected through the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania. He worked hard to represent the people of Lithuania.

Jonas Antanaitis passed away on September 7, 2018. He is remembered for his dedication to Lithuania.
