History
Jones Mill was once home to three large factories owned by the Reynolds Metals Company. These factories were very important. They included the Jones Mills Reduction Plant, the Malvern Cable Plant, and the Hot Spring Rolling Mill.
In October 1941, during World War II, the United States War Department announced that the Remmel Dam Aluminum Plant would be built here. This plant was one of four important defense factories in Arkansas. After the war, Reynolds Metals bought this plant.
However, in September 1985, Reynolds Metals decided to close its Jones Mills plant. Another plant in Gum Springs, Arkansas, also closed around the same time. After these closures, Reynolds Metals was still making products but at a smaller amount.
Later, the cable plant was sold and is now owned by General Cable Corporation. The Hot Spring Rolling Mill is now run by Reynolds Packaging Group. The original reduction plant was named after the nearby Remmel Dam, which creates electricity. Reynolds Metals later changed its name to Jones Mills, using an older spelling of the community's name.
