A Look at Jonesville's Past
Jonesville first started in the 1860s. It began as a hotel and a special stop for travelers. This stop was on the Humboldt Wagon Road. This important road connected the city of Chico to silver mines. These mines were far away in Idaho and Nevada.
Later, fewer people used the Humboldt Road. This happened after railroads were built, making travel easier. But Jonesville still stayed popular! It became a successful mountain resort. People from the very hot Sacramento Valley would come here. They wanted to escape the summer heat and enjoy the cooler mountain air.
The original Jonesville Hotel is still standing today. It was carefully fixed up and restored in 2019.
