Early Life and School

Joni Anwar was born in Bangkok, Thailand. His father was from Indonesia, and his mother was from Scotland. He finished school at Bangkok Patana School in 2000. After that, he went to the United States to study business in South Hampton, New York.

Joni's Career Journey

Joni Anwar began his career by appearing in TV commercials for brands like Ovaltine and Bata. Soon after, he signed a record deal with RS Promotion, a big music company.

In 1994, Joni started his music journey as part of a pop dance duo called Raptor. He was in the group with Louis Scott. After Raptor broke up in 1998, Joni helped his younger brother, Anan Anwar, with his first album. Not long after, Joni started his own solo music career and released three albums: Bad Boy, Freeman, and Outtaspace.

Raptor: The Pop Duo

Joni Anwar and Louis Scott were very young when they released their first album, Raptor, in August 1994. Joni was 12 and Louis was 13, making them the youngest singers in Thailand at that time. They named their duo "Raptor" after the fast dinosaurs from the movie Jurassic Park. They also liked that the name sounded like "rap."

Their song "Kid Thung Ter" (Missing you) became a huge hit. Other popular songs included "Super Hero" and "Kum Wa Peun" (The word friend). Their first album sold over a million copies!

Raptor often performed in concerts. On September 24, 1994, they joined a concert at MBK Hall with another boy band called Hijack. They even sang a song together called "Yha Kid Wa Ter Mai Mee Krai" (Don't think you have no one). They also performed at Amy Sports Stadium in 1995 with other RS artists.

After working on a special album called The Next with other singers, Joni and Louis released their fourth album, Raptor Goodbye. Many thought this would be their last album together. The album featured popular songs like "Sayonara Goodbye," "Oh Yes," and "In My Heart." Their "Raptor Monchos Dance Concert" in July 1998 was a big event, and they continued to tour Thailand that summer.

Raptor's final album, The Memory, came out in May 1998. It was a collection of their best songs, plus some new mixes and a special song called "Kwam Shong Jum (The memory)." Their very last live show was the "Goodbye Concert Sayonara Raptor" in 1998 at MBK Hall.
