Jordan Connor Yuen (born September 17, 1991) is a Canadian actor. He is best known for playing Sweet Pea in the TV show Riverdale. He has also acted in other shows like Looking for Alaska and Nurses.
Early Life and Getting Started
Jordan Connor was born in Calgary, Canada, but his family moved to the Vancouver area when he was two. His father is mostly of Chinese descent, and his mother is from Croatia. He has a brother named Brad and a sister named Nicole.
Connor knew he wanted to be an actor when he was about 10 years old. In high school, he acted in school plays and also played football. His first time on stage was in his school's version of the musical Guys and Dolls.
He was so good at football that he got a scholarship to the University of British Columbia. He decided to focus on football and study architecture, putting acting aside for a while. But during a game in his second year of college, he broke his leg badly. This injury ended his football career.
Feeling down and unable to walk for three months, Connor rediscovered his love for acting. A TV show called Hellcats needed stuntpeople, who are actors that do exciting and sometimes dangerous actions in movies. Since the show was filming with his old football team, he got a job as a stuntperson. After that, he decided to leave college to focus on becoming an actor. He trained at an acting school in Vancouver for five years while working other jobs to support himself.
Acting Career
Connor's big break came when he was cast as Sweet Pea in the popular TV series Riverdale. He had tried out for other parts in the show first. His character, Sweet Pea, was only supposed to be in four episodes. But he became so popular that he became a regular character on the show.
In 2019, Connor played Kevin in the miniseries Looking for Alaska, which was based on a novel by John Green. That same year, he also starred in a comedy web series called Hospital Show.
In 2020, Connor appeared on the show RuPaul's Secret Celebrity Drag Race. He competed against other celebrities and won the episode. He earned $30,000 for his chosen charity, Cystic Fibrosis Canada.
Later, he joined the cast of the Canadian medical drama Nurses for its second season. He has also worked behind the camera, co-directing and producing a short film called The Skimmer.
