Jordan Dorrell Hawkins, born on April 29, 2002, is an American professional basketball player. He plays for the New Orleans Pelicans in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Before joining the NBA, he played college basketball for the UConn Huskies.

Growing Up and High School Basketball
Jordan Hawkins grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He first went to Gaithersburg High School. Later, he moved to DeMatha Catholic High School after his second year.
In his senior year, Jordan was named the Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year. He played really well, scoring about 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds per game. Many top colleges wanted him to play for them. He chose to play college basketball for the UConn Huskies.
College Basketball Journey
Freshman Year at UConn
As a freshman, Jordan played in 27 games for the UConn Huskies. He averaged nearly 6 points and 2 rebounds per game. He was recognized for his strong start and was named to the Big East Conference All-Freshman team. Towards the end of the season, he had a concussion. This meant he missed some important games, including the Big East Tournament and the NCAA Tournament.
Sophomore Success and National Championship
Jordan started his sophomore season as the main shooting guard for the Huskies. He had another concussion early in the season but quickly returned to play well. In one game against UNC-Wilmington, he scored 20 points.
By the end of the regular season, he was named to the first team All-Big East. He averaged 16.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. Jordan was a key player in the 2023 NCAA tournament. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the West Regional. In the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight games, he averaged 22 points.
In the 2023 national championship game, Jordan scored 16 points. His team, the UConn Huskies, won the championship with a score of 76–59 against San Diego State. Soon after winning the championship, Jordan decided to leave college early and enter the 2023 NBA draft.
Starting a Professional Career
Joining the New Orleans Pelicans
The New Orleans Pelicans picked Jordan Hawkins as the fourteenth overall player in the 2023 NBA draft. This was a big step for him into the professional basketball world. On January 13, 2024, Jordan had his best game so far. He scored 34 points and got 5 rebounds. The Pelicans won that game 118–108 against the Dallas Mavericks.
Family and Basketball
Jordan Hawkins has a famous cousin, Angel Reese. She is also a professional basketball player. Both Jordan and Angel won national championships in 2023. Their wins happened within two days of each other, which was a special moment for their family. They were also born very close in time, with Jordan being just one week older than Angel.
