Early Life and High School Basketball
Jordan grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He first went to Gaithersburg High School. After his second year, he moved to DeMatha Catholic High School. In his final year of high school, Jordan was named the Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year. He was amazing, averaging nearly 20 points and over 11 rebounds per game.
Jordan was considered a top player by college recruiters. He decided to play college basketball for UConn. He chose UConn over other big schools like Louisville and Marquette.
College Basketball Career
Freshman Year at UConn
As a freshman, Jordan played in 27 games for the UConn Huskies. He averaged about 6 points and 2 rebounds per game. At the end of the season, he was named to the Big East Conference All-Freshman team. Unfortunately, he got a concussion near the end of the season. This meant he missed some important games, including the Big East Tournament and the NCAA Tournament.
Sophomore Year and National Championship
Jordan started his second year as the main shooting guard for the Huskies. He had another concussion early in the season but quickly returned. In one of his first games back, he scored 20 points.
By the end of the regular season, he was named first-team All-Big East. He averaged 16.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game. Jordan was a key player in the 2023 NCAA Tournament. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the West Regional. He scored 22 points per game in the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight games.
In the 2023 national championship game, Jordan scored 16 points. The Huskies won the championship with a 76–59 victory over San Diego State. Soon after winning the national title, Jordan decided to leave college early. He chose to enter the 2023 NBA draft.
Professional Basketball Career
Joining the New Orleans Pelicans
The New Orleans Pelicans picked Jordan Hawkins as the 14th overall player in the 2023 NBA draft. This was a big moment for him, starting his professional journey.
On January 13, 2024, Jordan had an amazing game. He scored a career-high 34 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. His great performance helped the Pelicans win 118–108 against the Dallas Mavericks. He continues to play for the Pelicans, showing his skills in the NBA.
Personal Life
Jordan Hawkins has a famous cousin, Angel Reese. She is also a talented basketball player. Angel played college basketball for the LSU Tigers women's team. Both Jordan and Angel won national championships in 2023. Their wins happened within just two days of each other, which is pretty cool! They were also born very close in time, with Jordan being just one week older.
