Early Life and High School Football
Jordan Hill was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Steelton, a suburb of Harrisburg. He went to Steelton-Highspire High School. There, he played high school football for the Steelton-Highspire Steamrollers team.
In his final year of high school, Jordan was recognized as an all-state player. This means he was one of the best players in the entire state. He helped his team win a Class A state championship. After this success, many colleges wanted him to play for them. He chose to commit to Penn State.
College Football Career
Jordan Hill attended Pennsylvania State University. He played for the Penn State Nittany Lions football team from 2009 to 2012. In his first year, he played in 8 games and made 12 tackles. A tackle is when a player stops an opponent with the ball.
During his second year, he started four games and played in all 11 games. As a junior in 2011, Jordan became a key player on the defensive line. He made 59 tackles, including 8 tackles for a loss. A tackle for a loss means stopping an opponent behind their starting line. He also had 3.5 sacks. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage.
His best game that year was against Illinois. He made 10 tackles, including one for a loss. He received an honorable mention for the All-Big Ten team. This award recognizes top players in the Big Ten Conference.
In 2012, as a senior leader, Jordan helped his team move forward after a tough loss. His coach, Bill O'Brien, praised Jordan and other teammates for their strong play.
Professional Football Career
Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks picked Jordan Hill in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft. He was the 87th player chosen overall. In May 2013, he signed his first professional contract with the Seahawks.
In his first NFL season (2013), he played in 4 games. He made 7 tackles and 1.5 sacks. That season, his team, the Seattle Seahawks, won Super Bowl XLVIII. This meant Jordan earned a Super Bowl championship ring!
In 2014, Jordan became a more important player for the Seahawks. He played especially well in the last six games of the regular season. During this time, he made 13 tackles and 5.5 sacks. In one game against the San Francisco 49ers, he sacked their quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, twice. In another game, he had half a sack and made his first career interception. An interception is when a defensive player catches a pass meant for an offensive player. Unfortunately, he got injured in that game and could not play in the playoffs.
In 2016, Jordan was placed on injured reserve again. This means he could not play due to an injury. He was later released by the Seahawks in October 2016.
Other NFL Teams
After leaving the Seahawks, Jordan Hill played for a few other NFL teams in 2016. He was briefly with the Washington Redskins and then the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In 2017, he signed with the Detroit Lions. However, he was placed on injured reserve in August 2017 due to a biceps injury.
Personal Life
Jordan Hill is the son of Larry and Sue Hill. He has shared that his father, Larry, who has diabetes, inspires him greatly.
As of 2021, Jordan Hill became the head football coach at Trinity High School. This school is located in Shiremanstown, Pennsylvania.
