Jordanhill Parish Church is a church in Glasgow, Scotland. It belongs to the Church of Scotland. This church serves the Jordanhill area in the west part of Glasgow. You can find the church building on Woodend Drive.
History of the Church
The church started in 1854 as Hillhead Free Church. At first, it was a "preaching station." This means it was a place where people met for worship, but it was not yet a full church. They first met in a school on Knightswood Road.
The first church building was built nearby in 1858. However, this building had big problems. It was damaged because of coal mining in the area. So, the church decided to move to a new location. The first services in the current church building happened on June 11, 1905.
The church's name changed a few times. In 1888, it became Jordanhill Free Church. Then, in 1900, when the United Free Church of Scotland was formed, it changed to Jordanhill United Free Church. Finally, in 1929, when the United Free Church joined with the Church of Scotland, it became "Jordanhill Church of Scotland." Since 1979, it has been known as "Jordanhill Parish Church."
