José Alejandro de Aycinena y Carrillo (born April 24, 1767 – died May 26, 1826) was a Spanish soldier and politician. He was in charge of the Intendancy of San Salvador as its Colonial Intendant from 1811 to 1812.

Early Life and Family
José Alejandro de Aycinena y Carrillo was born on April 24, 1767. His birthplace was Antigua Guatemala, which was part of the Spanish Empire at that time. His father was Juan Fermín de Aycinena e Irigoyen. His family, the Aycinena Family, was well-known and conservative. His mother was Ana María Carrillo y Gálvez de Corral.
José Alejandro studied at the M. I. University of Guatemala. He later became the Rector (head) of this university. He also worked as an Attorney for the Real Audiencia of Guatemala.
Military and Political Career
José Alejandro de Aycinena y Carrillo was a Colonel in the Spanish Army. He led the Milicias de Infantería, which were infantry soldiers.
The 1811 Independence Movement
In November 1811, a group of people in San Salvador wanted to be independent from Spain. About 400 Salvadorans, led by José Matías Delgado and Manuel José Arce, started a movement. They declared independence and removed the Spanish leader, Antonio Gutiérrez y Ulloa. The independence leaders then chose José Mariano Batres y Asturias to take his place.
Becoming Colonial Intendant
José Alejandro de Aycinena y Carrillo was sent to San Salvador. His mission was to stop the independence movement. He successfully put down the rebellion.
On December 3, 1811, he became the new Colonial Intendant of San Salvador. His job was to bring peace and improvement to the region. He served in this role until August 1812. After that, he was chosen to be an Advisor of the State for the Real Audiencia of Guatemala. José María Peinado y Pezonarte took over his position in San Salvador.
Later Life and Death
José Alejandro de Aycinena y Carrillo passed away on May 26, 1826.
