José Bonet Solves, born in Valencia, Spain, on June 18, 1955, is a well-known Spanish mathematician. He is an expert in a special area of math called functional analysis. This field helps solve complex problems. He also uses his knowledge in other math areas. These include complex analysis and linear partial differential equations.

José Bonet's Academic Journey
José Bonet started his journey in Mathematics at the University of Valencia. He graduated in 1977. In 1980, he earned his Ph.D. from the same university. His professor, Manuel Valdivia Ureña, guided his studies.
From 1977 to 1983, Bonet worked as an assistant at the University of Valencia. He then became an associate professor at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. This was from 1983 to 1987.
Since 1987, José Bonet has been a full professor there. He teaches in the Applied Mathematics Department. He also visited universities in Germany. He was a Visiting Professor in Paderborn in 1989 and 2002.
International Research and Leadership
José Bonet received a special fellowship. It was from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. This allowed him to do research in Germany. He worked in Düsseldorf, Paderborn, and Eichstätt.
He led the Instituto Universitario de Matemática Pura y Aplicada IUMPA. This is a math institute at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He was its director from 2004 to 2016.
Bonet has also led many research projects. These projects were funded by the Spanish Ministry of Education. He also organized international meetings. These meetings focused on functional analysis.
He has guided fifteen students to complete their Ph.D. theses. This means he helped them become doctors in mathematics.

- In 1994, he became a member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences.
- He became a full member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences in 2005. He gave a special lecture on April 23, 2008.
- Since 2018, he has been the President of the Mathematics Section. This is also at the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences.
Top Prizes for His Studies
- In 1977, he won the First National Prize for Finishing University Studies in Mathematics. This was from the Spanish Ministry of Education.
- He received the Premio Extraordinario de Licenciatura in 1978. This was a special prize for his graduation in Mathematics. It came from the University of Valencia.
- In 1980, he won the Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado. This was a special prize for his Ph.D. thesis. He received it from the University of Valencia.
- In 2016, he received a medal from the Real Sociedad Matemática Española.
