José Bonet Solves was born in Valencia, Spain, on June 18, 1955. He is a Spanish mathematician. He specializes in a field of math called functional analysis. This field helps solve problems in other areas of math, like complex analysis and equations with many variables.

A Mathematician's Journey

José Bonet studied Mathematics at the University of Valencia. He graduated in 1977. In 1980, he earned his Ph.D. from the same university. His professor, Manuel Valdivia Ureña, guided his research.

He started working at the University of Valencia as an assistant. This was from 1977 to 1983. Then, he became an associate professor at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He held this position from 1983 to 1987.

Since 1987, Professor Bonet has been a full professor at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He teaches in the Applied Mathematics Department. He has also been a visiting professor in Germany. He visited the University of Paderborn in 1989 and 2002.

Professor Bonet received a special scholarship. It was from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. This allowed him to do research in Germany. He worked at universities in Düsseldorf, Paderborn, and Eichstätt several times.

He led the Instituto Universitario de Matemática Pura y Aplicada IUMPA. This is a math institute at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He was its director from 2004 until November 2016.

José Bonet has led many important research projects. These projects were supported by the Spanish Ministry of Education. He also organized international meetings about functional analysis. He has guided fifteen students to complete their Ph.D. degrees.
