José Bono Martínez (born on December 14, 1950) is a well-known politician from Spain. He was a member of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE). José Bono held several important jobs in the Spanish government.

He was the President of the Congress of Deputies from 2008 to 2011. Before that, he served as the Minister of Defence for Spain. This role lasted from April 2004 to April 2006. He worked under Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

One of his longest roles was as the President of the region of Castile-La Mancha. He held this position for many years, from 1983 until 2004. In 2020, he also became a citizen of the Dominican Republic.

Leading the Congress of Deputies

José Bono was elected President of the Congress of Deputies on April 1, 2008. This is a very important job, similar to being the speaker of a country's parliament. He helped lead the discussions and work of the Spanish lawmakers. He finished this role in December 2011.

Serving as Minister of Defence

From 2004 to 2006, José Bono was Spain's Minister of Defence. In this role, he was in charge of the country's military and defence matters. He worked to keep Spain safe and secure. He was part of the government led by Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

President of Castile-La Mancha

José Bono was the President of the Autonomous Community of Castile-La Mancha for over 20 years. He started this job in 1983 and continued until 2004. As president, he was the main leader of this region in central Spain. He worked on local issues and helped improve life for people there.
