Minister of Defence
After his time as regional president, José Bono became Spain's Minister of Defence. He started this job on April 18, 2004. He worked under Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero. As Minister of Defence, he was responsible for the country's military and security. He left this role on April 7, 2006.
President of the Congress of Deputies
Later, José Bono was elected President of the Congress of Deputies. He took on this role on April 1, 2008. He led the meetings of the Congress, which is where laws are debated and passed. He served in this position until December 13, 2011.
