José Figueroa Alcorta (born November 20, 1860 – died December 27, 1931) was an important Argentine lawyer and politician. He is famous for being the only person in Argentina to lead all three main parts of the government. These parts are the Executive (the President), the Legislative (the Vice President, who leads the Senate), and the Judicial (the head of the Supreme Court).
He served as Vice President from 1904 to 1906. Then, he became President of the Nation from 1906 to 1910. Later in his life, he became the President of Argentina's highest court, the Supreme Court of Justice, from 1929 until he passed away in 1931.
Early Life and Political Start
José Figueroa Alcorta was born in Córdoba. His parents were José Figueroa and Teodosia Alcorta. He studied to become a lawyer.
He began his political career by being elected as a National Deputy. He represented his home province of Córdoba. In 1895, he became the Governor of Córdoba Province.
Rise to National Leadership
In 1898, Figueroa Alcorta returned to the Argentine Congress. This time, he served as a Senator. His experience in both the executive and legislative branches was growing.
In 1904, he became the Vice President of Argentina. He served alongside President Manuel Quintana. When President Quintana passed away in 1906, Figueroa Alcorta took over as President.
