José Larralde (born October 22, 1937) is a famous Argentine singer and songwriter. He is known for his folk music, which often tells stories about everyday life and important issues.

José started writing songs when he was only 7 years old. His songs often talked about social topics and the lives of people he met. He has a diverse background, with family roots from Iraq and the Basque Country. Before becoming a full-time musician, José worked many different jobs. He was a bricklayer, a farm worker, a welder, and a mechanic. These experiences gave him many ideas for his songs.

The Start of His Music Career

In 1967, another well-known folk artist, Jorge Cafrune, helped José Larralde by including some of his songs on his album. This was a big step for José. Later that same year, José Larralde released his very first album, called Canta José Larralde. This was the first of more than 30 albums he would release in Argentina.

His Unique Style and Impact

José Larralde is not as widely known as some other Argentine folk artists. This is because he prefers to avoid big promotions and huge concerts. Even so, his music has become popular far beyond Argentina. People in countries like Germany, Australia, Mexico, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, and Spain enjoy his songs. His lyrics often talk about social problems and unfair situations in the world. He uses his music to share important messages about justice and equality.

Beyond Singing

José Larralde also tried acting! He appeared in an Argentine movie called Santos Vega in 1972. More recently, one of his songs, "Quimey Neuquén," became famous again. This song was originally written by Marcelo Berbel and Napoleón Milton Aguilar. A new version of it was used in the popular TV show Breaking Bad, in an episode called "Buried."
