José Ramón Larraz Gil (born in 1929 – died on September 3, 2013) was a Spanish director. He was known for making exciting and sometimes scary movies. These films are often called exploitation or horror films. Some of his famous movies include Vampyres (1974), The House that Vanished (1973), and Symptoms (1974).

Early Life and Comics
José Ramón Larraz was born in Barcelona, Spain in 1929. He studied and earned a special degree called a Doctor of Philosophy. In 1952, he moved to Paris, France.
In Paris, Larraz started his career by writing comics. He wrote for popular magazines like Pilote and Spirou. One of his most well-known creations was an action-packed comic series called "Paul Foran." He wrote this series using the name "Gil." He also helped with the artwork for some of these comics.
Film Career
Later, Larraz moved to England and began making movies. Around 1976, he moved his film work back to Spain. He directed many different kinds of movies. However, he is most famous for his horror films, which are movies designed to be scary.
One of his films, Symptoms, was a special British entry at the 1974 Cannes Film Festival. This is a very important film festival where movies from all over the world are shown. Towards the end of his career, his horror films were often made with both Spanish and American companies working together. He stopped making films in 1992 when he was 63 years old.
His Passing
José Ramón Larraz passed away in Málaga, Spain, on September 3, 2013. He was 84 years old.
