José Segundo Roca (born July 1, 1800 – died March 8, 1866) was an important Argentine military leader. He held the rank of Coronel in the army. He fought in several major conflicts, including the second Upper Peru campaign and the War of the Triple Alliance, where he sadly passed away.

Early Life and Family
José Segundo Roca was born in San Miguel de Tucumán, a city in Argentina. His father, Pedro Roca, was from Tarragona, Spain. His mother, María Antonia Tejerina, was a Creole, which means she was born in the Americas but had Spanish ancestors.
José Segundo Roca married Josefa Agustina Paz. Her family was well-known and respected. Together, José and Josefa had many children. One of their sons, Julio Argentino Roca, later became a very famous general and served twice as the President of Argentina.
Military Career and Service
José Segundo Roca dedicated his life to the military, serving from 1816 until his death in 1866. He was a brave soldier and rose to the rank of Colonel. He fought for different groups that shaped Argentina's history.
Fighting for Independence
Colonel Roca was involved in the wars for independence from Spain. He took part in the second Upper Peru campaign, which was a series of battles to free parts of South America. Some of the battles he fought in during this time include:

Conflicts in Argentina
