Josefina Isabel Villalobos Páramo (born August 5, 1924, died February 24, 2025) was an important public figure. She was the First Lady of Ecuador from 1992 to 1996. Her husband, Sixto Durán Ballén, was the President of Ecuador during that time.
Her Early Life
Josefina Villalobos was born in New York City. Her parents were from Colombia. In 1945, she married Sixto Durán Ballén.
Role as First Lady (1992–1996)
As the First Lady, Josefina Villalobos was often called "Finita de Durán-Ballén." She helped create the National Institute of the Child and the Family (INNFA). This organization helps children and families in Ecuador.
She was known for hosting events at the Carondelet Palace. This is the official home of the President of Ecuador. Josefina also traveled with her husband. They visited many places in Ecuador and other countries. When her husband became President in 1992, Josefina was 68 years old. This made her the oldest First Lady at that time.
Family Life and Later Years
Josefina Villalobos and Sixto Durán Ballén had nine children together. After her husband finished his time as President, they both retired. They lived in Quito, Ecuador.
Sixto Durán Ballén passed away on November 15, 2016. He was 95 years old. Josefina Villalobos lived to be very old. She turned 100 years old on August 5, 2024. She passed away in Quito on February 24, 2025, at the age of 100.
