Joseph Kuzi (born November 30, 1954) is an Israeli expert in diamonds and a business leader. He is known for starting EGL Asia and also a company called Diamond Services Ltd.
Early Life and Education
Joseph Kuzi was born and grew up in Israel. He earned an engineering degree from Tel Aviv University in 1984. Later, in 2003, he completed a special business program at the Harvard Business School.
A Career in Business
Kuzi served in the Israeli army for 13 years. After that, he joined a high-tech company called El-Op. He worked in their marketing department for 10 years.
In 1994, he became a partner and leader at a company called UBEX. During his time there, he helped the company grow a lot. Its sales went from $5 million to $180 million.
Starting Diamond Labs
In 2008, Joseph Kuzi got special permission to open a branch of European Gemological Laboratories (EGL) in Asia. He started the EGL gem lab in Hong Kong. This was the first lab of its kind in that part of the world.
Four years later, in 2012, he started another company in Hong Kong called Diamond Services Ltd. This company created its first product, the DiamaTest, in 2013. Its second product, the Diamond Natural Device (DND), came out in 2019.
In January 2019, Kuzi joined the advisory board of the Asian Institute of Gemological Sciences (AIGS). His company also launched a mini Raman Spectrometer in 2019. This device helps identify diamonds. The company also began offering services to check for synthetic (man-made) diamonds. These services are available in Hong Kong and the United States. Kuzi also worked as a top executive for the Panama Diamond Exchange.
Awards and Recognition
Joseph Kuzi has received several awards for his work. In 1998, the Israeli Ministry of Industry and Trade gave him the Outstanding Diamond Exporter award. His company, Diamond Services Ltd., also won the JNA Award in Hong Kong in both 2014 and 2019.
