Starting in Politics
In 1921, Joseph McGinley was elected as a Sinn Féin TD. This happened during the 1921 Irish elections. He represented the Donegal area. He was elected unopposed, which means no one else ran against him for that position.
At this time, Ireland was discussing a big agreement called the Anglo-Irish Treaty. This treaty was about Ireland's future. Joseph McGinley supported this agreement and voted for it.
Later Elections and Political Changes
After the treaty was signed, another election happened in 1922. Joseph McGinley was again elected as a TD for Donegal. He was still unopposed in this election. He was part of the group that supported the Anglo-Irish Treaty.

He was running against Neil Blaney, whose father had held the seat before. Joseph McGinley was not elected in this by-election. Neil Blaney, from the Fianna Fáil party, won the election.
