Josephine Marsh is an amazing Irish traditional musician and composer. She plays many different instruments. These include the accordion, fiddle, concertina, and guitar. She also writes her own music!

Early Life and Musical Start

Josephine Marsh was born in London in 1967. When she was only four years old, her family moved to County Clare, Ireland. This is where she grew up. Josephine became a full-time musician and teacher.

She started taking music classes when she was 10. Soon after, she began playing with a local music group. Josephine then started competing in big music festivals. These included the Gael Linn youth festival Slogadh, the Fleadh Ceoil, and the Oireachtas.

Touring the World

In 1996, Josephine moved to Sydney, Australia. There, she worked as a music teacher. She also toured as a musician. She performed at major events like the National Folk Festival. She also played at the Port Fairy Festival and Geelong Folk Festival.

Later, Josephine toured many other places. She performed in the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom. Of course, she also played all over Ireland. She has shared the stage with many famous Irish musicians. Some of these include Tommy Keane and Lillis Ó Laoire.

Composing and Television

In 2003, Josephine became a Musician in Residence. This was in Mountshannon, County Clare. During this time, she wrote all the music for a show called The Music of Ghosts. This production was even recorded and played on Lyric Fm radio.

Josephine has also appeared on Irish television. She was on shows like The Pat Kenny Show and Nationwide. She continues to tour Ireland regularly.

Awards and Recognition

Josephine has also taught at the famous Willie Clancy Summer School. She received special funding from the Arts Council. This allowed her to spend more time creating her own music. In 2020, she was honored as the TG4 Composer of the Year.
