The fountain is made from dark, shiny granite and bronze. It was first opened on May 21, 1912. The fountain was first placed on the east side of Bryant Park in 1913. Later, in 1936, it was moved to the west side of the park.

Winter Features

In 2009, the fountain got a special update. An internal heating system was added. This system helps the fountain stay on even when it's very cold outside. It allows icicles to form, which can look really cool!

However, if the weather gets too cold for too long, the fountain is turned off. This prevents too much ice from building up. Too much ice could cause damage to the fountain's structure.
