Racing Journey
Starting Out
In 2004, Josh Brookes won a World Supersport race at Philip Island. He was a "wild card" entry, meaning he was not a regular competitor. Later that year, a serious crash affected his season. He came back strong in 2005, winning Australia's Superbike and Supersport titles on a Honda motorcycle.
World Supersport and Superbike Races
In 2006, Brookes moved to the World Supersport series with a Caracchi Ducati team. He left the team partway through the season. Soon after, he joined the Bertocchi Kawasaki team in the Superbike World Championship. He raced for the first time on this bike at the Italian round in Mugello. He faced challenges because it was his first time living in Europe and racing on many new tracks.
He continued with the team in 2007, when they switched to Honda Fireblade bikes. Brookes scored points in many races.
Later in 2007, Brookes joined the Stiggy Motorsport Honda team in the Supersport World Championship. He continued with them in 2008. Brookes won his second World Supersport race at Donington Park. This win helped him move up to second place in the championship standings.
British Superbike Championship Success
In 2009, Brookes moved to the British Superbike Championship with the HM Plant Honda team. He had some tough moments, including missing the first race due to visa problems. At Donington Park, he was involved in an incident with another rider, Sylvain Guintoli. Brookes later took seventh and third places at Thruxton. He also started from the front row and finished third twice at Snetterton.
At Mallory Park, Brookes had another incident where his bike crashed, spilling oil on the track. This caused other riders to crash as well. Brookes later apologized for his mistake. He finished third on his return at Croft.
For 2010, Brookes stayed with the HM Plant Honda team. He won his first race of the season and later took wins at Cadwell Park and Snetterton. His season was shown in the film I, Superbiker.
In 2011, Brookes switched to the Relentless TAS Suzuki team. After a difficult start, he began to get good results by mid-season.
In 2015, he raced a Milwaukee Yamaha YZF-R1. He won the British Superbike Championship at the final race weekend at Brands Hatch. Even though he slid off the track in the last race, he had already earned enough points to win the championship earlier.
In 2017, Brookes finished second in the championship standings while riding a Yamaha. He won two races and earned four second-place finishes that year.
Isle of Man TT Races
On November 28, 2012, it was announced that Brookes would compete in the 2013 Isle of Man TT Races. As a well-known "newcomer," Brookes raced for Tyco Suzuki in the Superbike, Superstock, and Senior categories.
In the 2013 Superbike race, Brookes became the fastest newcomer ever. He completed a lap at 127.726 miles per hour. This record stood until 2014. He finished in 10th place in that race.
Brookes had better results at the 2014 TT. He finished 7th, 10th, and 67th in his four races.
