Josh Brookes' Racing Journey
Starting Out in Racing
In 2004, Josh won a race in the World Supersport series at Philip Island. He was a "wild card" entry, meaning he was invited to race for just that event. Later that year, a crash affected his season. He came back strong in 2005, winning both the Australian Superbike and Supersport titles on a Honda motorcycle.
World Supersport and Superbike Races
In 2006, Josh moved to the World Supersport series with a Ducati team. He left that team partway through the season. Soon after, he joined the Bertocchi Kawasaki team in the Superbike World Championship. He raced for the first time on this bike in Italy. He struggled a bit because it was his first time living in Europe and racing on many new tracks.
He continued with the team in 2007, when they switched to Honda Fireblade bikes. Even though he scored points in many races, the team had to miss a round due to a legal issue.
Later in 2007, Brookes joined the Stiggy Motorsport Honda team for the last five races of the Supersport World Championship. He stayed with them for the 2008 season. Josh earned his second win (and the first for the Stiggy team) at Donington Park. This win helped him move up to second place in the championship standings.
British Superbike Success
In 2009, Josh Brookes switched to the British Superbike Championship with the HM Plant Honda team. He had some challenges, including missing the first race due to visa problems. At Donington Park, he was involved in a collision with another rider, Sylvain Guintoli, before a race. Brookes said his brakes failed. He received a one-race suspended ban. In the next race at Thruxton, he finished seventh and third. He then got two third-place finishes at Snetterton.
Another incident happened at Mallory Park when Brookes crashed and caused oil to spill on the track. This led to other riders crashing. Brookes apologized for his mistake and broke his thumb. BSB officials gave him a two-race ban for "not riding in a manner compatible with general safety." He returned to racing at Croft and finished third.
For 2010, Brookes stayed with the HM Plant Honda team. He won his first race of the season early on. He also took wins at Cadwell Park and two wins at Snetterton. His season was shown in the film I, Superbiker.
In 2011, Brookes moved to the Relentless TAS Suzuki team. He had a tough start with a big crash at Oulton Park. However, he started getting good results by the middle of the season.
In 2015, he rode a Milwaukee Yamaha YZF-R1 and won the British Superbike Championship at the final event at Brands Hatch. He had already earned enough points to win the championship before the last race.
In 2017, Brookes finished second in the championship on a Yamaha. He won two races and had four second-place finishes.
Isle of Man TT Challenge
On November 28, 2012, it was announced that Josh Brookes would race in the 2013 Isle of Man TT Races. The Isle of Man TT is a very famous and challenging motorcycle race held on public roads. As a well-known "newcomer," Brookes raced for Tyco Suzuki in the Superbike, Superstock, and Senior categories.
In the 2013 Superbike race, Brookes became the fastest newcomer ever. He completed a lap at an average speed of 127.726 miles per hour! This record stood until 2014. He finished 10th in that race.
Brookes had better results at the 2014 TT, finishing 7th and 10th in two of his races.
